The Institute for the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ) is a secular,
not-for-profit media training institute which offers short professional
upgrade and refresher courses to working journalists from print and
broadcast media and provides broader performance consultancy and
training services to people working with the media in government
departments, NGOs, and private companies. IAJ aims to deliver effective
training, facilitate African media networking, assist journalists from
disadvantaged backgrounds, stimulate sound news values, raise
professional standards, support freedom of speech and information, and

The Institute for Further Education of Journalists (FOJO) is a secular
independent institute attached to Kalmar University in Sweden. FOJO
provides a center for professional journalists in Sweden and more than
90 countries to expand their knowledge of journalism and current social
issues. Although FOJO is located in Sweden, the institute works with
journalists from all corners of the world and cooperates with a number
of partners. They are willing to customize courses on-site.
Internationally,
FOJO works with various journalism organizations and universities in
Palestine, Vietnam, Belarus, Russia, Sri Lanka, southern Africa and in

The Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) is a secular
organization dedicated to strengthening local journalism in areas of
conflict. By training reporters, facilitating dialog and providing
reliable information, it supports peace, democracy and development in
societies undergoing crisis and change. IWPR is known for its
award-winning website and electronic publications in nine languages.
Its activities are based on an integrated program of support through
the entire journalistic process. An international media development
charity, IWPR is led by senior journalists and peace researchers, with
staff drawn from extablished media such as the BBC, The Guardian, and
Reuters. The Institute is a partnership between the London-based
charity established in 1991, and the recently formed IWPR (US), based

organization that provides professional development programs promoting
excellence in news coverage of critical community and global issues.
The Center offers many fellowships and exchanges, conducts a variety of
training seminars, workshops and conferences, and provides a range of
consulting services. Since 1984, ICFJ has worked with some 12,000
journalists and other media professionals from 170 countries, and their
